Our thoughts about Stripping and Waxing.

CLEARING_01

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read through this brief article on stripping and waxing services. Let me begin by noting that we’ve spent a lot of time talking to other companies that do this type of work, and have also had many chances to talk to our customers about what they are used to paying for it and what they expect, quality-wise. We have also been employed by other companies to do this same work prior to owning our business. This good mix of experience is where our viewpoints and sense of credibility come from.

What we’ve learned in the eleven years we’ve been stripping and waxing floors (for ourselves and other companies) is that most of the bigger companies here in Amarillo charge roughly the same amount as each other for stripping and waxing services. That amount is consistently 40-50 percent higher than what Fail-Safe charges. This is a good way to make  money on this type of work because usually, an employee is paid a meager hourly wage to do the hardest part of it.

Let’s take a look at a made-up but perfectly realistic example of this business model:

Company X charges $0.35 per square foot for a 2,000 square feet strip and wax job. That’s a payout of $700.00.

Company X sends their floor technician to do the work. The employee  makes $13 per hour and works for eight hours, or is on a salary that comes out to about that amount. The floor tech makes about $100 on that job.

Company X has just made $600.00 by doing very little. You’d think that this would mean that a company could charge less for the service, especially since they’ve spent so little time actually providing it. If the owner doesn’t have to spend any time doing the actual work, the cost should come down, right? It seems to be the opposite, though.

We turned this business model upside-down by using premium materials, performing the work ourselves and charging less for it. In the end, We use little-to-no third-party help and have direct control over the quality of the work. This is why we get so many of the bids we put in (over 95%) and continually meet and exceed the expectations of our customers with the work we perform. We have literally had customers tell us that we are the cheapest service in town and that we’ve done the best job on their floors they’ve ever seen.

We’re proud to say this happens all the time.

Other ways we maintain low cost:

1: Some companies charge extra for putting on more than 3-4 coats of wax. While many agree that 3-4 coats is the acceptable minimum for providing good durability and shine, Fail-Safe has a “do it until it looks good” policy. That means we’re always going to go for a wet, glossy look using premium waxes at no extra cost to the customer. A clean, shining floor is some of the best advertising a cleaning company can invest in, and we love hearing how impressed people are with our shine.

2: We stay well below the market average. Some are satisfied knocking a few cents off their rate just to be able to say they’re cheaper. In an effort to make our service available to a wider range of customers, Fail-Safe always provides a quote that’s hard for other companies to compete with while providing the same level of quality.
